Skinned and split toor dal is the most widely used form of lentil. Together with tamarind pulp, vegetable and spices, toor dal is used to make the popular delicious south Indian sambar. It has a thick gelatinous or meaty consistency, and takes longer to cook then moong and masoor dal. Health benefits: It is very rich in protein, iron, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, potassium and vitamin B. Boiled lentils are high in dietary fibre.
